Your child has been bringing home Scholastic Book Club catalogs. There will be a different catalog each month sent home along with a letter giving instructions for ordering on-line. Our class due date for orders will always be the last school day of each month. If you need order submitted before that please let me know. Also feel free to inform me if a book order is a gift for your child, that way it can be sent home properly. All books orders placed help earn our classroom free books for our library.
Students learn about drawing self portraits from Art and Design teacher Mrs. VanDyke. This was a collaboration time where Mrs. Van Dyke came to our classroom lend expertise to our upcoming project. We are beginning our Social Studies unit, "Who am I", where the students will begin a series of self portraits and learning about themselves through a variety of activities.
Your child brought home a blue folder labeled "Take Home Folder" the first Wednesday of school. Those blue folders have now been replaces with more heavy duty red "Take Home Folders". The red folder will travel back and forth between home and school each day from now on. Any classwork completed during the school day will come home in those folders along with important communication paperwork from myself or the school office. You will notice that the two pockets int he folder are already labeled and we will use those labels to the best of our ability. If you have communications that need to be returned to school please place them in the read folder and remind your child to turn the folder in to me at the beginning of the school day.
I will remind and check students backpacks each day through the month of September until we can have a morning folder system put into place. Thank you for understanding the change in this folder procedure! These are a few photos of students participating in centers activities. This is a time where students rotate through a variety of academic and social workstations. This is a also the time of day that I will work with small groups of students for leveled reading groups. Our class has been working very hard on cooperating and sharing with others during centers.
